The Complete Works of Pir-o-Murshid Hazrat Inayat Khan 1926 I: December 1925 – March 1926

$30.00

A complete collection of talks by Inayat Khan during the first half of his 1926 visit to the United States.

The initial volume from 1926 presents the first set of lectures Inayat Khan gave in America during his final visit there, and cover the dates from December 1925 through March 1926. These lectures were exceptionally long and full, and they represent a culmination of his public teaching, just as the last Summer School in Suresnes that followed contains the culmination of his esoteric teaching. He began the tour with a long stay in New York, then visited Detroit, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego. The lectures were all transcribed by his secretary Kismat Stam, providing a reliable and accurate record. Many of these lectures have never before been published and indirectly provide a colorful picture of the tumultuous spirituality of the American audience of the day.

Description

The Complete Works of Pir-o-Murshid Hazrat Inayat Khan
1926 I: December 1925–March 1926
Original Texts: Lectures on Sufism

Volume 1926 I in the Complete Works of Pir-o-Murshid Hazrat Inayat Khan presents the lectures he gave in America during his last visit there, from December 1925 through March 1926. These lectures were exceptionally long and full, and represent a culmination of his public teaching, just as the last Summer School in Suresnes that followed contains the culmination of his esoteric teaching. He began the tour with a long stay in New York, then proceeded to Detroit, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego. This volume is the first of two to cover the tour, as the lectures are exceptionally long and the whole tour could not be presented in a single volume. They were all taken down by his secretary Kismat Stam in shorthand, but she soon wrote them out in longhand as well, so our record of the lectures is strong. Many of these lectures have never before been published, and will provide a rich trove for those interested in the details of Inayat Khan’s Sufi teaching. They also, by indirection, provide a colorful picture of the tumultuous spirituality of the Americans of that day whom he was addressing. Taken together, the two volumes from 1926 provide a most impressive and varied collection of teachings. Two additional volumes from 1926 are expected to be published by the Nekbakht Foundation soon.
